1. Acceptance of these terms
By accessing or using the Service, you confirm that you (a) are at least 16 years old (or 13 in the United States, with parental consent where required), (b) have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement, and (c) agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind that organisation.
2. What the Service does
PaperMind converts documents, audio, and video sources into citation-grounded mind maps and lets you chat with them. Supported source types include PDF, EPUB, DOCX, YouTube videos, podcast episodes, web articles, and pasted text. We use third-party artificial-intelligence services (currently OpenAI) to generate mind maps, embeddings, and chat responses. Details of AI processing are set out in our Privacy Policy, Section 9.
3. Your account
- You must provide accurate, current, and complete information when creating an account and keep it updated.
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials.
- You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, whether authorised by you or not.
- You must notify us promptly at contact@abrarsohail.com of any suspected unauthorised access.
- You may delete your account at any time. Deletion removes your content from live systems within 30 days (see Privacy Policy, Section 6).
4. Acceptable use
You agree NOT to use the Service to:
- Upload or process content you do not have the right to submit.
- Upload content that infringes any copyright, trademark, trade secret, publicity or privacy right, or other intellectual-property or proprietary right.
- Upload content that is illegal, defamatory, obscene, hateful, discriminatory, harassing, threatening, or that promotes violence or self-harm.
- Upload content containing malware, viruses, or other malicious code.
- Upload content containing personal data of others without a lawful basis to process it.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or otherwise extract source code from the Service.
- Attempt to circumvent quotas, rate limits, or access controls.
- Use the Service to build a competing product, or to scrape, harvest, or extract data at scale.
- Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the Service other than as permitted by our robots.txt.
- Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or entity.
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
We may suspend or terminate your account for violations of this section without refund and without prior notice where such action is reasonable to protect the Service or other users.
5. Your content & our licence
You retain full ownership of the content you upload or paste. We claim no ownership rights over your sources, transcripts, or derived mind maps.
To operate the Service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, revocable licence to host, store, reproduce, modify (only as strictly necessary to render, chunk, embed, transcribe, and generate mind-map output), and transmit your content — in each case solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you.
We will not:
- Use your content to train our own or any third party's AI models.
- Sell, rent, or licence your content to third parties.
- Publicly display your content, except (i) at your explicit request via a public share link that you generate, or (ii) as required by law.
The licence terminates when you delete the relevant content or your account, subject to reasonable backup-deletion windows described in our Privacy Policy.
6. Third-party content & sources
When you paste a URL (YouTube, podcast, web page) or upload a file, you represent that you have the right to submit that content for processing. You remain solely responsible for compliance with the terms of the source platform (e.g. YouTube's Terms of Service, podcast RSS licensing, publisher paywalls). We do not endorse or take responsibility for third-party content processed through the Service.
If we receive a valid takedown notice (DMCA or equivalent) that content processed through your account infringes a third-party right, we may remove it and may suspend or terminate repeat-infringing accounts.
7. AI-generated output limitations
Important. Mind maps, quotes, summaries, and chat responses are generated by AI models and may occasionally be inaccurate, incomplete, or misinterpreted. While we ground every quote against your source and verify substring matches before displaying it, you must not rely on AI-generated output as a substitute for professional advice (legal, medical, financial, or otherwise). You agree to verify any material information independently.
We do not warrant that AI output will be accurate, complete, timely, or fit for any particular purpose. See Section 12 (Warranty Disclaimer) and Section 13 (Limitation of Liability).
8. Subscription & billing
PaperMind may offer both free and paid tiers. If you subscribe to a paid tier:
- You authorise us (via our payment processor) to charge your payment method.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before renewal.
- Fees are non-refundable except (i) where required by applicable consumer law or (ii) at our discretion.
- We may change pricing with at least 30 days' notice via email or in-app notice. Continued use after price changes constitutes acceptance.
- Applicable taxes will be added at checkout where required by law.
9. Free tier limits
The free tier is subject to usage quotas (currently 3 ingested sources per account lifetime, subject to change). Free-tier usage is provided "as is" and we may modify, suspend, or discontinue the free tier at any time with reasonable notice where practicable.
10. Intellectual property (ours)
The Service, including its software, design, brand, logos, and content we author, is owned by PaperMind and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. We grant you a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable licence to access and use the Service in accordance with these Terms. No other rights are granted by implication or otherwise.
11. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account from your dashboard.
We may suspend or terminate your access, with or without notice, if you materially breach these Terms, if your account is inactive for an extended period, or if we reasonably believe termination is necessary to protect the Service, other users, or us.
Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including Sections 5 (content licence — for a limited retention period), 10 (IP), 12 (Warranty), 13 (Liability), 14 (Indemnification), and 16 (Governing law).
12. Warranty disclaimer
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise. We specifically disclaim, to the fullest extent permitted, all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranties arising from course of dealing or usage of trade.
We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that AI-generated output will be accurate or reliable.
13. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will PaperMind, its operators, or affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service.
Our aggregate liability arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) USD $50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (e.g. liability for gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or death/personal injury caused by our negligence).
14. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless PaperMind and its operators from any claims, damages, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of (a) your content, (b) your use of the Service in violation of these Terms or applicable law, (c) your violation of any third-party right, or (d) your negligence or wilful misconduct.
15. Consumer rights (EU / UK)
If you are a consumer in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you have certain statutory rights that these Terms do not affect. In particular:
- You may have a 14-day right of withdrawal for paid subscriptions purchased online. However, by starting to use paid features within the withdrawal period, you expressly consent to immediate performance and acknowledge that you will lose your right of withdrawal once the Service has been fully performed.
- You may lodge disputes with your national consumer authority or use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr.
16. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of [governing-law jurisdiction — to be inserted before public launch based on the operator's residence], without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The exclusive jurisdiction for disputes lies in that jurisdiction's courts, subject to consumers' statutory rights to sue in the country of their habitual residence.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email (if you have an account) and by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the Service after the effective date of updated Terms constitutes acceptance.
